The Disability Affinity Graduation is a celebration of Columbia University’s remarkable graduates with disabilities, who have achieved great things in the face of many barriers, both in terms of structural ableism and challenges in accessibility.

Conceived by Leslie A. Zukor, JRN ‘23, and modeled on the ceremonies celebrating various intersectional identities at different Columbia schools, this year’s event marks the third time that an affinity graduation celebrating people with disabilities has taken place at Columbia.

The Disability Affinity Graduation is also the first affinity graduation uniting the entire campus around an identity. Any affiliate of the 19 schools that comprise the University, 17 of which are represented today, is eligible to participate.

The event is a culmination of a grassroots effort by Columbia Student Disability Network president Caitlin Hamilton, as well as board members Robin Hart, Madeline Mueller, Eleanor Suet-Ying Koo and has the support of many schools and departments across Columbia University, including University Life and the Office of Disability Services.
